Went here because of reviews and wasn’t disappointed. Authentic atmosphere, helpful English speaking staff and most importantly good beef. Can’t really go wrong here.

They are many tourists coming for this shopThe friendly staff will ask where u come from and try to greet you in your language.When we order the sukiyaki, the friendly staff introduce every ingredient in my language and started to cook for me, it’s a enjoyment seeking the staff cook for you ask they will interactive with you. They will take picture for u after all the food are served on the table.They even have halal menu for Muslim.

Very good restaurant, staff is amazing. Help with the bbq and soups. 4 Menu (was too much food for US family of 4, 3 would have been enough), 2 deserts and 2 coffee were about 15,500¥ (about 115€) a bit more expensive than other places but unique restaurant and so very worth it!!

Our first Hida 🐮 dinner. Maybe not as popular as its 🇯🇵 siblings (ex: Kobe, etc), but this Hida beef maybe the best beef we’ve ever tasted. First we ordered the BBQ set. Also our 1st experience tasting the real wasabi; it’s different from the paste version we’re familiar with. The fresh one tastes fresh & a bit sweet, and has puree texture.It was so good, second round we finally splurged a bit, getting their better sirloin 🥩 cut... 😅Extra bonus is the friendly restaurant staff. Two thumbs up. They serve really nice hida beef, taste really good. I'm so lucky that when I there,no queue at all, and they serve my order really fast. The server ask where i came from, and then the cook try to explain how to eat our food in our local language. Really great effort and great food also.

Husband and I visited this quaint, cosy and welcoming eatery in Jan 2020. When you first step in, feels transported to what it might be like in olden times. The hostess/waitress were friendly and warm. Despite limited English, they communicated well. The food was delicious. Good quality.

Amazing meat, the type with miso sauce made in a leaf was something we hadn’t tried before and it was delicious. The grilled meat too. The staff was also very nice and it was very quick. Recommended

Nice place and a little pricey but good quality good and very nice staff and friendly service. We ordered the shabu shabu (like a hot pot) and one of the grilled meals (where you cook the meat on a mini BBQ). Both meals were delicious. Place feels a little set up for tourists (not a bad thing) as we were leaving a huge group of about 15-20 western tourists came in - glad it was as we were leaving as might have ruined the vibe!

We had great sukiyaki here with warm welcome from the owner.

Very nice atmosphere. Ate on tatami (but it is mostly normal tables in the restaurant). Food was delicious, staff were super friendly. Very happy after our visit :)

I can’t say enough about this amazing restaurant. Fourth generation owner takes extreme pride in the quality of food and overall experience for his customers. The meat is quality, great local sake, tasty home made wasabi and great service. 10/10 would recommend.

we made reservation through google map function and this is the best hida beef we have had. We received warm welcome from the boss lady. Their staff are all very nice. Hide beef is of course at its quality and with a reasonably good deal price. We ordered both sukiyaki and amiyaki (followed with extra beef too), for drinks we ordered plum sake and premium sake.

Went 2x to Suzuya during our 4 day trip to Takayama. Experience was really nice, the service and staff was really really nice. They are very accommodating and very friendly to our child. Food was also very delicious and quality of their hida beef was the best we had during the trip. Would definitely come back again.

Tourist trap!!! Don’t understand why they are so high rated. It’s a real trap! Average over priced food. You pay because the waiter speaks a sentence in each language on the universe. There are much better options in Takayama. But be aware that all restaurant are cramped at dinner time and make sure you have a reservation in advance. That’s why we landed there.

Went there based on the reviews but a bit disappointing. Staff didn't speak English, expensive and not very happy with the welcoming. They left us not in a nice place to have dinner. It was ~3700 ¥ for the menu on the picture.

We arrived a group of six they couldn't seat us all together so we had two separate booths, which we don't mind. They had a vegetarian option! Which was the biggest draw to this place for me, It meant the meat eater could try the famous Hida Beef and I could eat! lol. Veggie meal was good! Lovely presentation. The meat eaters absolutely loved the beef and deemed it 'the best beef they've EVER had'. Also had a lovely suit sake I cant remember the name unfortunately. Service was good and friendly. Highly Recommended.

Visited this restaurant during the summer on my own and I absolutely loved this place; the food was beyond delicious, the service was top quality and the conversations I had with the staff was wonderful. I will certainly be visiting this place again when I return to Takayama. I really want to eat the food again and see the staff again. :)

he food was excellent. Hida meet is really one of the best meats I have ever tasted. The people at restaurant speaks English, some Spanish and they are very nice and cheerful! Excellent place. Not cheap but not expensive.

Crazily delicious and good price! Picture speaks for itself. A solid 5! 3780 yen for such a nice meal!!!! Highly recommended. It’s like a family restaurant and they are v kind!!!
